Seems as though Peter Cottontail took a little stroll our way recently.  I may not be decking the walls as much as I did last year, but don't you fret, I'm still decking some things out! It's Baby E's first Easter, after all. Speaking of that, this usually procrastinating momma decided to get things done a little early this year. Baby E already has an Easter basket + some goodies to go inside ;) And I already bought some eggs and dye. We all know I like to jump start the holidays a bit early 'round these parts, but don't worry, I'm able to hold off on decorating the eggs a little while longer -- like, maybe until after St. Patty's!

Still wondering why Easter is so early this year...it's in March..what the heck?

Yup...that could use a good ironing after pulling it out of storage for a year!

My sister made fun of me for getting Baby E an Easter basket this year when "she won't even remember it!" ....but HELLO, do you know me? I dyed Easter eggs and carved pumpkins and decorated for every little holiday that people usually don't even care about well before I even thought of becoming a mother. Did you honestly think I wouldn't get my baby an Easter basket her first Easter? You crayyy, gir. Just cray!

Anywho, it is looking like Spring has arrived in this house, even though it's freakin' colder than cold outside and we technically still have 13 days until the start of Spring. Let's not worry about that!

I took one look around the room and all of these items filled my peripherals:
well, hello spring! how do you do?

We've been decorating for Easter, reading about Easter, and singing Little Bunny Foo Foo just to see the cutest baby smiles you ever did see.

If you know me, you know I raided the dollar bins at Target and the clearance aisle at Books-A-Million, before heading to the library to get ourselves a library card. Scored these little eggs for $1 at Target, plus an Easter book for $1 and some change at B-A-M. Heck yes :)

Not to mention, this little woven vintage suitcase at Goodwill a few months ago for $6. These spring pictures came out just how I wanted :) Captured my 3.5 month old beautifully!

Oh, this girl. She makes us so happy! All we want for her is to stay happy, healthy, and always be able to look back and remember good times with her family. Instilling values in our girl at a young age will help to create traditions she'll remember for years to come. I read somewhere that creating a unique family identity will help to create memorable moments that she'll always look back on to remember her family as a close-knit one. I believe that incorporating past traditions while building our own new traditions along the way as a family (in an enjoyable, non-forceful way) will always give us something to live by. And will certainly give us memories to remember and build upon year after year. It doesn't even always have to relate to holidays, but just small daily or annual gestures can surely go a long way.

Starting our own family has given us a whole new meaning in life. It's amazing to think about the bigger picture; the families we've come from -- the support, the love, the fun -- and then think about the family we are creating. We're creating our own small family that has our own unique values and quirks, all within a bigger family -- the ones we come from. And altogether, we make up one great big family. That big family is where we draw some of our traditions from and is where a huge part of who we are comes from. And the cycle just continues. It's just exciting to have our own little one to create so many memories with. What we give her (in terms of love, memories, and tradition) is a big part of who she will become. So it's up to us to make every moment count!

Ain't no thang...we got this ;)

And on a completely different note, bonus points to the person who can tell me what kind of stinkin' socks will ever stay on baby feet! Seriously..she's got tons of socks. None of which stay on. The ol' "where's her other sock" has become quite the common lingo around here!

the best way to spread christmas cheer....

...is singing loud for all to hear! Elf, anyone?!

That is just what I've been doing recently. If a good Christmas jam comes on, I can't help but sing out loud in sheer joy! Call me crazy, but I freakin' love the holidays. And well, J..he'll bust out a tune or two as well. You've just gotta catch him in the right mood!

christmas ornaments on tree

After much anticipation, we slowly wandered down enchanting rows of trees to pick out just the right one for us. It was a cold evening and that perfect amount of Christmas scent filled our noses. I was happppy. And I greatly appreciate having a husband who loves Christmas/the holiday season in general almost as much as I do. Not quite sure what I would do if I had that Grinch-type for a husband. Phew! (By the way, Grinch the Musical was adorable..I highly recommend it!)

christmas decorating mode

Pandora holiday tunes were playing, the oil warmer was lit, leaving scents of evergreen to fill our house, and the fire place was flickering. Great night to decorate our Christmas tree.

Our pup thinks the tree is a place to hide under when he's in trouble. Me, I think it's hilarious.
I still see you!

J and Grizz loving each other?! Not so much, but they're doing what they do best - wrestling :) That's what puppy daddy's are for, right?

We decked the tree with ornaments before going to bed, while visions of sugar-plums danced in our heads. Twas the night before Christmas, anyone?!

med school student christmas ornament,

While decorating for Christmas, I think it's a time when everyone usually reflects on their favorite childhood memories and family traditions. I love that each and every family has varying traditions and values that make up Christmas time for them, many of which are passed down through generations. You can't help growing up, but you can choose which memories and traditions to move forward with.

Looking back on our BIG family's Christmas mornings, I can't help but miss those days with all of us having a blast together, without a worry in the world. That's the fun of childhood, and while you learn to let go, you yearn to grow. My family members now have their own families to incorporate some of our traditions into while creating new ones along the way. It just means more family members to share in the joy with. Especially now that I'm married..double the families, baby! And family, after all, are the most important people to spend the holidays with!

We hope to bring some new traditions to the table, like buying our tree the day after Thanksgiving, and decorating the tree on J's birthday (except for those years where his birthday falls before Thanksgiving!) We have a few other ideas that we hope to throw in along the way, and then there will be those spontaneous activities that just so happen to become traditions without even planning for it. I'm thrilled to stumble upon those in the future, and for now I'm thrilled for our first Christmas together as "The Barr's."

What are your family traditions? I'd loveee to hear about them!
