RAISING THE LITTLE BARR'S

Happy Birthday Hubby! {A birthday full of THANKS and GIVING}

CharleneComment
Happy Thanksgiving to you and you and you! With love from The Barr's :)
{on our first Thanksgiving where we are not having to either A. travel amongst the rest of the country or B. host tons of family at our house with a 10 day old newbie baby! Not sure if I love or dislike that fact, but either way it is nice to not travel and it is absolutely gorgeous out today AND it is my husband's 27th birthday, so it is a wonderful day indeed!}

With that being said,
Happy, Happy Birthday to my wonderful husband!

I compiled photos of us from our beginning  (February 2002) -
before we had driver's licenses, diplomas, and certainly no responsibilities -
and created a video for my husband as a little gift.

Putting this together brought more than just a gift for him.
It brought me memories upon memories upon memories
that make me the most thankful woman on the planet today.
(or at least that's how I feel...)

Seriously, I am beyond blessed.
And I don't know if I will ever stop thanking the big man above
for bringing me what He has!

Happy 27th (Thanksgiving) Birthday to my husband,
whom I am beyond thankful to have experienced an amazing little life with
for the past (almost) 12 years.
I am incredibly proud of the man he has become and
incredibly admiral of all that he hopes to accomplish next!

Enjoy :)

By the way, in case you haven't heard it a bazillion and 4 times on this blog,
here's # bazillion and 5 --
We are BEYOND thankful for this amazing little girl.

Here's a special THANKS to you, Baby E,
for GIVING us so much joy and love
in life that we never even knew we were missing

And apparently, she is thankful for us too :)

And thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you who help make our lives completely blessed!

Baby E's First Birthday Party {A Pumpkin, Pink, Gold, Burlap & Lace Rustic Vintage Chic Birthday Party}

Charlene11 Comments
Rustic Pumpkin Pink Gold Burlap Lace Birthday party

Can anyone else believe that we celebrated Baby E's FIRST birthday party with family and friends last week? Does it not seem like just yesterday we

announced

that we were expecting our little bundle of joy? I didn't even really

know

that little bundle of joy then. I felt her, I felt a bond and a deep connection, but I didn't

know know

her if you know what I mean. Our lives have been so blessed in this past year with getting to know, love, and bond with the best thing to ever happen to us. It truly is amazing.

So to celebrate the first year of her life was something we were looking forward to - in that bittersweet way. We wanted it to be memorable for her, for us and for those that love her. And let her look back on photos to know how special her first birthday was to everyone around her. She had a blast, to say the least.

We went with a pumpkin fall festival theme. Including a pumpkin patch for pumpkin painting,  sack races, ring toss, fall eats & treats, carnations and baby's breath filled mason jars, pinata bashing, and cake smashing. A pumpkin, pink, gold, burlap and lace rustic chic birthday party fit for a chic little gal.

She loved every last pumpkin, carnation, and grain of glitter she could find. But more importantly, she loved all the family and friends who came to celebrate her day with us, in person or in spirit :)

Let's start with the details, shall we? Momma love her some details!

And let's finish with the moments. Each and every special moment - complete with soccer playing, kids sack racing, adults sack racing,

falling on our asses

, kids drinking glass bottle root beers to look like they are in the 21+ crowd, painting pumpkins with a blob of mixed up metallic paints under twinkle lights, sparkler twirling, chowing down on pulled pork sandwiches, crock-pot chili & Chick-fil-A nuggets, and oohing-and-aahing over our pride and joy who is beautifully growing up. I'd say it was a day spent well!

Baby girl dug into her cake, until she realized it was easier to just nix the hands and smash her face directly into the cake. Much easier, right?! Mmmm!

And maybe even some beer pong under a twinkly light arena.

Baby girl's first birthday party was certainly memorable, fun, and magical. It was quite the celebration of the first year of our beautiful girl's life and I am thankful for how much fun she had and for how loved she is :)

And once again, HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY to our little love!

Happy FIRST Birthday, my sweet little love!

Charlene5 Comments
We were laying, cuddling, laughing and playing on a cloud of white down blankets yesterday morning -- just baby girl and I. We were in a hotel room, waiting on Daddy who was out on a residency interview. Now and Then was on - and lawdy do I love that movie - as I contemplated ordering room service breakfast (but did not! I remembered we are not rich). I was happy as can be while playing airplane with my sweet daughter, fully aware in that moment that it was the last day she was still under one year old. That was my ah-ha moment.

My still seemingly brand new (to me) baby girl is turning one tomorrow, I thought. And I watched her pretty little face as she laughed and giggled while flashing sweet toothy smiles. I was loving every moment of playing with her (as always), and while watching that adorable little face, I flashed back to the day she was born at the hospital... To the moments when I had no idea what one year from then would look like. And this was it right in front of me, begging for more and more action from me, while I scooped her up into my arms to hug her wiggly, laughing self to tell her "Happy early Birthday, sweet girl!"

Mommy and Daddy built her a teepee for her birthday. A teepee to read in, to cuddle in, and to squeeze under as a little family to make memories in.

BARR-0649

She's found her happy spot in that teepee and it makes us happy. Last night, after a looong time in the car, this momma was more tired than I even knew. I fell asleep in the teepee while J and I were reading to her, under a glistening light hung neatly above us in it. In my jeans and all. And I stayed fast asleep - while Daddy put E to sleep in her crib, took a shower, put a blanket on me, and left us peacefully in her room with the crashing waves white noise in the background. I had no idea of any of this until I peeked an eye open in the middle of the night, when it was just about to start turning light out. I realized where I was and smiled (or smiled in my head - as I was too tired to do anything!) I took note of the handmade quilt my husband must have placed on me and rolled back over to sleep right next to my birthday girl's crib. As much as I would have loved to be in my own bed after a hotel stay and long car ride, I was happy to be sleeping in that happy spot so close to Baby E. Shortly after I heard her waking up, I saw her stand up so I popped over to whisper hi to my birthday girl.

I picked up her grinning self and held her close while I quietly sang 'Happy Birthday' to her before bringing her in the teepee to nurse her and go back to sleep together. In an instant before falling asleep, I flashed back to the day I met her in my arms one year ago today.

That teepee already did it's job. It's already given me an amazing memory with her, completely unplanned yet completely loved.

BARR-0555

Once we woke up, I brought her into our room so we could see Daddy. We laid in bed while I pulled up her birth story to see pictures and remember this day one year ago.

Mommy and Daddy took baby girl out today. We were very lucky to be able to spend it all together. Brought her to the Wow Factory and we played our hearts out and I freakin sprained an ankle in the toddler area playing a bit too hard. They had a sign posted up in there.."The greatest gift you can ever give your child is your time." Heck yes to that.

We brought her to Chik-Fil-A to eat A (singular) chicken nugget (but she DID eat a chicken nugget - woohoo!) and we let her indulge in an ice cream cone before playing a little more.

Her cousins and Grandma came over to sing her very first 'Happy Birthday' cake song to her. She wasn't so sure about it, but there weren't tears and she ate a few bites of an ice cream cake, so success in my book.

Our teepee loving birthday girl is very excited to see her family and friends this weekend to celebrate some more.

BARR-0646

I still can't believe it's been a year since I met her in my arms. I still can't believe she has been the biggest part of our lives and giving us the best cuddles, laughs, and love for a whole year already. I still can't get over that she is a mixture of J - the man I love so much - and I....and that we have a little piece of us to love for the rest of our lives.

We are continuously thankful for God bringing this beautiful child to us and we wish our sweet girl a very Happy First Birthday from the bottom of our very full hearts!

Happpy Halloween from a first-timer Tinkerbell!

Charlene1 Comment
Ladies and gents, witches and ghouls, we've got a first-timer on our hands!

baby tinkerbell costume with wand photo

Daddy's lil Tink is ready to scare the zombies away take on the day.

BARR-02

We've been gearing up for Halloween by practicing her best 'trick-or-treat' moves partaking in some trunk or treat action, pumpkin patch goodness, pumpkin carving and momma even let her eat a pumpkin cake cookie. Mmm!

BARR-05

Mommy and Daddy tried showing her the ropes --

BARR-11

But I'm pretty sure all this little Tinky cared about were the candy wrappers and candy stragglers that little pirates and princesses left behind in the grass.

Forget about the bowls and bowls of fresh sugar-in-a-wrapper waiting to be eaten -- this gal grew ecstatic at the sight of anything left on the super clean ground.

babyintinkerbellcostumefromdisneystore

She sure didn't mind doing the ol' "whatcha got in there?" or "whatcha wanna trade?" trickaroo.

BARR-12

BARR-14

These cousins sure have had a blast. And this mean momma didn't let baby girl eat one piece of candy. (But hey, she didn't even ask! Baby Tink was just as happy as can be with a wrapped piece of candy in hand..phew!)

I have yet to find a character or anything really for that matter that she is scared of.

BARR-16

Even a scare crow can't scare her.

The incredibly nice momma that I am even put on the scariest mask in Target and ran around the corner to get her -- she cracked up. Nice try, ma, nice try!

Lil Tink ain't as dainty as she looks, I suppose!

Sadly, she cares less about pumpkins and more about running circles around them, leaving the pumpkins in her fairy dust.

BARR-19

We spent HallowEVE carving a pumpking, teaching our Tink all she has to look forward to for Halloweens to come, and the adults enjoying a pumpkin beer or two.

Halloween33

Sadly, I didn't buy her any Halloween books. Top of my list was 'The Night Before Halloween' and 'Goodnight Goon' :(

So momma made up for it with a Halloweeny breakfast that she may or may not have only taken two bites of. (Anyone have ideas for the pickiest eater on the planet?! Throw 'em my way)

Halloween31

Making her first Halloween one to remember (or not! ha..she is only 11.5 months, after all) is important to us. This marks the last of her 'First' holidays (aside from her birthday), so remembering it or not, we're making the most of it.

Tinky deserves all the pumpkins her little wand heart desires.

BARR-21

Now use your magic, Lil Tinky, and make this Halloween evening unforgettable :)
